AI Background V2, NAFNet denoise and full-resolution editing.

RC4 advances Astro Background Extractor AI V2 and consolidates quality, performance and persistence across Astro Editor—from gradient correction and denoise to history, color and export.

Build 1.0.0.5

Global AI Background, vignetting and AI Denoise preferences are preserved when older projects are reopened instead of being overwritten by legacy project values.

AI BACKGROUND

V12 plus protected V13 Refine

The default pipeline uses V12 as Stage A and V13 Refine as a protected Stage B, with an automatic Stage A fallback if refinement fails.

AI DENOISE

NAFNet quality at source resolution

Dedicated strength, detail, nebula, star and color protections combine with NAFNet SIDD w32 for full-quality output.

FULL RESOLUTION

Stable states keep source quality

With Safe Mode off, stabilized history states render at source resolution while lightweight proxies are limited to interactive dragging.

FITS & STRETCH

Configurable Sigma/MTF display

Linear FITS files open at a 10% / 3σ MTF Auto-Stretch by default, with a configurable 1%–50% target background.

ASTRO COLOR

More selective color protection

Stellar chromatic-aberration correction, Natural Astro Color and AI White Balance better protect nebulae, emission detail and highlights.

EXPORT

Choose first, render once

Export dialogs open immediately; full-resolution rendering begins only after the destination has been selected.

RC2 · Build 3 — 30 July 2026

One Masks workspace across both editors

Astro Editor and Photo Editor now share the same masking workflow, visual language and local-editing logic.

HOLD / LOCKED means truly local.

Adjustments in the left column affect only the active selection. Clicking Done commits the complete masked edit as a single history state.

Shared Masks workflow

Graphics, mask layers, previews, Refine, Adjust and manual tools now behave consistently in Astro Editor and Photo Editor.

Every adjustment family

All Photo Editor adjustment families can be used with selections and masks. Switching or deleting a mask starts again from neutral local controls.

Faster manual painting

Brush+, Brush− and Eraser are smoother and accelerated on macOS and Windows, with precise local Undo/Redo from the very first click.

Cleaner, safer previews

Fixed zero-opacity overlays, painting beyond image bounds, Darken Sky Background, slider resets and ONNX/CoreML stability.

Unified navigation

Centered 1:1 zoom, Cmd/Ctrl + wheel, shared shortcuts, photographic guides and complete information bars across all four editors and viewers.

Refined interface

The Masks panel is cleaner and easier to scan, with unnecessary frames removed from slider rows.

Build 3 also improves work beyond the image edges, mask preview accuracy and local history reliability while keeping the editing pipeline non-destructive.

Fusion Lab 1.0 RC2

Everything added after RC1

RC2 expands the editing workflow, strengthens non-destructive project safety and improves AI, RAW, FITS and cross-platform reliability.

01

Unified Masks workspace

Shared Astro/Photo masking with layers, Refine, Adjust, previews, local history and accelerated manual brushes.

02

RAW temperature and tint, exposure, contrast, highlights, shadows, whites, blacks, texture, clarity, dehaze, vibrance, saturation and HLVG.

04

Non-destructive Astro history

Visible future states, Undo/Redo and named snapshots now follow the Photo Editor model, with an isolated Starless baseline.

05

Safe Stars / Starless editing

Play, Edit and Finish behave as one transaction. Undo truly returns to the previous state, while Cancel never contaminates the image.

06

Editor autosave

Work is protected before a project is loaded, replaced or abandoned, reducing the risk of losing an active editing session.

AIRI contextual assistant inside Fusion Lab
AIRI adapts its guidance to the active Fusion Lab workspace and keeps every recommendation visible and reviewable.

Guidance built around the workflow in front of you

From Standard Calibration, Deep-Sky, Comet and Focus Stacking to Photo Editor, Astro Editor and AI Astro Blend, AIRI can explain controls, interpret visible issues and suggest the next useful check.

Understand context

Recognizes the active editor, workflow and available project context.

Analyze a preview

Examines an optional reduced, metadata-free preview after consent.

Choose the next step

Turns the current result into a clear sequence of checks.

Explain controls

Clarifies masks, stacking, color, export and Astro Blend parameters.

Show its sources

Links relevant documentation, guides, FAQs and release notes.

Use AIRI inside Fusion Lab 2026 RC4

Activate or verify your Fusion Lab license, open Settings → AIRI, select Cloud service and start a conversation. AIRI can receive the active workspace, selected language and relevant help context so its answers stay specific to your task.

Use AIRI on the AstroPanel website

Sign in with the AstroPanel account connected to your Fusion Lab purchase, open AIRI and start a new conversation. Your recent web conversations remain available in the AIRI workspace.

Optional image analysis, with explicit consent

When you attach an image, Fusion Lab or the browser prepares a reduced preview without metadata. The original file is never uploaded, the gateway does not retain the preview and the AI service key remains protected on the AstroPanel server.

Advice stays under your control

AIRI analyzes, explains and recommends; it does not apply edits to the image. You review every suggestion and decide what to change. If the cloud service is unavailable, Fusion Lab's local Learn, FAQ and tooltips remain available.

Purpose-built imaging intelligence

Two specialized image-processing AI engines

Alongside the AIRI assistant, Fusion Lab includes two different AI imaging engines, each designed for a specific astrophotography problem.

AI 01

AI Background Extractor — integrated into Astro Editor

Estimate and remove uneven illumination, broad color casts and low-frequency gradients without placing a manual sample grid. Inspect the proposed background model before applying it, then continue with stretch, color, masks and star processing in the same workspace.

AI Strength, Structure Protection and residual-gradient controls keep the correction reviewable and help preserve stars, nebulae and faint astronomical structure. Processing runs locally, while Polynomial and RBF extraction remain available as classical alternatives.

AI 02

AI Astro Blend Beta — tracked sky and foreground fusion

Persistent Sky and Ground layers inside Local Masking provide independent alignment, transform, feathering and edge controls plus a safer HOLD → Done workflow.

Sky/Ground selections, masks and transformations stay synchronized. Full-resolution 16-bit export, horizon protection, opacity, Adjust controls and complete Reset behavior are more reliable.

AI Background Extractor cleans and prepares the astronomical image; AI Astro Blend combines a finished sky with the landscape.

AI Background Extractor

Reveal the signal behind an uneven sky.

Remove broad gradients and unwanted color from astronomical images while keeping the correction visible, adjustable and under your control.

AI Background Extractor estimates the low-frequency background separately from the astronomical subject. It is designed for difficult illumination patterns such as vignetting, light-pollution gradients and chromatic contamination, with Structure Protection helping retain stars, nebulae and faint detail.

RC4 · AI Background V2

The default pipeline uses V12 as Stage A and protected V13 Refine as Stage B, with a safe Stage A fallback. V13 Global remains optional. Processing stays local, visible and reviewable inside Astro Editor.

STF · SCREEN

Inspect linear data clearly

STF applies an automatic Screen Transfer Function for display only. It reveals the background, faint signal and residual gradients without changing the underlying linear pixels — ideal for evaluating the extraction before committing to the next processing step.

MTF · PREVIEW / EXPORT

Control the visible rendering

MTF provides a controlled Midtones Transfer Function with an adjustable target background and sigma range. Use it to compare versions consistently and export a stretched, presentation-ready rendition when a visible result is required.

LINEAR · MASTER

Keep the scientific workflow intact

Background estimation and display stretching remain separate. Preserve or export the corrected linear master for continued scientific processing, and use STF or MTF only when you need a readable preview or a rendered output.

AI Background Extractor has been evaluated on held-out astronomical scenes across multiple gradient families. Results remain image-dependent; full-resolution visual inspection is always recommended before final export.

The complete toolkit

16 dedicated workflows

Open a category to explore the tools built for astrophotography, multi-exposure photography, editing and inspection.

Astrophotography

Standard Calibration

Import and classify Light, Dark, Flat and Bias frames. Inspect calibration masters, preflight Light-frame quality and stack with Mean, Median, Winsorized Sigma Clipping or Linear-Fit Clipping.

Quality weighting, Drizzle 2×, rejection-map export, adjustable sigma, stellar registration, RGB balance and linear 16-bit or 32-bit TIFF output are included.

Deep-Sky Stack

Calibrate optional Dark, Flat and Bias frames, align the Light sequence and combine it as LRGB, HOO, SHO/Hubble or RGB plus narrowband. Export 16-bit TIFF, 32-bit float TIFF or 32-bit float FITS.

Comet Processing

Calibrate the sequence, detect the comet nucleus and register Light frames on its motion. Choose Mean or Median integration while preserving chronological capture order.

Star Trails

Combine a fixed-camera sequence with Lighten/Maximum, Mean, Comet Trail or Reverse Comet Trail. Smooth tapering creates a controlled bright head and fading tail.

Star Effects Studio NEW

Create Glow, diffraction spikes, Soft Flare and Ring Flare with automatic/manual star selection, Essential and Advanced controls, presets, masks, Effects Only output and a real-time preview.

Multiple layers can use different stars and effects, with independent visibility, order and opacity.

AI Astro Blend BETA

Blend a tracked sky with a foreground at original resolution. Automatic sky segmentation uses an ONNX model with a classical fallback; registration supports translation, similarity, affine, homography or local mesh warp.

Refine paired control points, positioning and masks; match exposure, color, local contrast and noise; protect stars; suppress halos; and choose edge-aware or multiband blending. The Quality Map identifies seam risk, doubled stars, halos, uncertain registration and noise discontinuities.

AI Background Extractor

Estimate and remove uneven astronomical backgrounds with Structure Protection and an adjustable gradient-model preview. Use STF to inspect linear data without changing it, or MTF preview/export to create a controlled visible rendition. Polynomial and RBF extraction remain available as classical alternatives.

Astro Editor

Continue directly from calibration or stacking into a dedicated astrophotography editor with Base/RAW development, stretch, color calibration, masks, Starless processing, history and layered star effects.

Photography and multi-exposure

Silk / Long Exposure

Align and average a tripod sequence to smooth water and clouds at full resolution. Choose Mean for a natural long-exposure effect or Median to reduce transient elements.

Focus Stacking

Merge the sharpest local detail from frames focused at different distances—designed for macro, product and landscape sequences.

Mean Stack Denoise

Register repeated photographs of the same static scene and combine them with Mean or Median integration to reduce random noise.

Night Painting

Use Lighten/Maximum blending to combine the brightest pixels from multiple light-painting passes while preserving the fixed scene.

HDR

Align bracketed exposures through full-resolution exposure fusion. Select gentle, balanced or strong highlight recovery, work in 16-bit or 32-bit and start from 15 HDR looks.

N-HDR — Night Photography

Develop urban and suburban night brackets with dedicated highlight recovery, automatic exposure ordering and 32-bit tonal precision, then refine color casts, urban lights, structure, haze and gradients.

Panorama — Photomerge & Fusion Pano

Find overlaps, estimate camera geometry and blend full-resolution photographs. Use Auto, Perspective, Cylindrical, Spherical, Collage or Fusion Pano Multi-row projection with Astro, Terrestrial and multi-row profiles.

Inspect correspondences, add control points, remove outliers, preview seams, normalize exposure and color, apply final RGB balance and choose Safe, Bounding or No Crop. Auto-stretch affects the preview only—not linear output.

Photo Editor

Develop RAW photography with complete tonal and color controls, local retouching, luminosity masks, non-destructive history, snapshots and full-resolution professional export.

Fusion Lab 2026 Panorama Photomerge and Fusion Pano workspace
Panorama — overlap analysis, control points, full-resolution preview and linear 32-bit TIFF output.

Image Viewer

Open supported photographic and scientific formats with metadata, zoom and inspection tools before choosing the next workflow.

Quality before rendering

Identify weak inputs before they damage the result

Light-frame Preflight

Analyze star count, FWHM, eccentricity, SNR, clipping, color casts and motion. Every frame receives a quality score and a conservative keep/reject recommendation.

Calibration Inspector

Inspect master Bias, Dark and Flat statistics, defective pixels, illumination, vignette maps, defect maps and compatibility warnings.

Panorama diagnostics

Validate overlap and geometry without composing the full panorama, with confidence, inliers, seams and corrective actions recorded in the diagnostic log.

Professional output

Ready for web, print or scientific processing

Export JPEG, PNG, 16-bit TIFF or 32-bit float TIFF. Resize to a target width, sharpen the output, position a PNG watermark, control JPEG quality or maximum file size, and convert to sRGB, Adobe RGB (1998), ProPhoto RGB or Display P3 with the ICC profile embedded.

Scientific workflows can remain linear; Deep-Sky also supports 32-bit float FITS.
