      M63 – The Sunflower Galaxy, taken late April 2025

      Getting harder and harder with these shorter nights … but after two nights anyway this result: an image of M63, also known as the Sunflower Galaxy 🌻.
      This image was taken with the Celestron C8 and the ASI533MC-Pro camera, equipped with the Optolong L-Pro filter. Instead of long exposures this time I opted for 350 lights of 60 seconds – a strategy that seems to work well in combination with the high sensitivity of the camera. The spiral structure and subtle details in the dust bands come out nicely, despite shooting from a Bortle 8-9 location.

      Always a challenge, but what a joy it remains to capture such deep sky objects from the backyard!
